“Whoever saves a single soul, it is as if he had saved the entire world”
’Righteous Gentiles’ or ’Righteous Among the Nations’ is the term used for those non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust. This honor is given by the Yad Vashem Museum in Jerusalem, and altogether there are over 20,000 people recognized as Righteous Persons by the special committee.
Besides the six million people who perished during the Holocaust, thousands of others were saved. Many of the rescuers had much to risk: those who were caught hiding a Jew were immediately shot on the spot by the SS or hanged in public. Thousands of the stories will remain untold forever… but there are other stories that we all should know about…
